Project Fi is now Google Fi: A cellphone service by Google, now available on Iphone and Android

Project Fi, a cheap cellphone service got officialy launched as Google Fi. Fi was annonunced by Google three years ago, and finally google expand its support list to a lot more phones than before, which includes iPhone and the majority of Android devices.

Full list of phones are available on

According to The Verge, "This isn’t the first time that Fi has worked with Apple devices; you could get a data-only SIM for iPads as secondary devices before. And technically, a Fi SIM has always worked in an iPhone, provided you adjusted the data settings on the phone. But now Google is supporting iPhones directly for new customers, though it says that the support is in beta and requires. There will be a new Google Fi iOS app to help ease the process along."

Google Fi (formerly known as Project Fi) is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), which means that instead of just using one of the four US carriers(Which it supports now), it automatically jumps between several cellular networks depending on which has better service. Fi hops between Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular, and also favors Wi-Fi whenever possible, including for calls and texts. Plans ranges from $20 to $80 for 1 person, according to data price increase and no price increase after 6 GB plan. Calls and SMS are free in all plans.

Google also allows people with phones running Android 9 Pie to secure their data through its own VPN. However, "Google Fi still has some catch up to do with other carriers when it comes to other features, including support for the RCS Universal Profile for texting and number sharing for things like LTE smartwatches."

In US, Google is also giving offers on new phone to its users, as promotion of Fi. If you open a new Fi account or if you are existing user then you can buy any phone in the Fi shop and get your money back in the form of a travel gift card that you can use for a flight with Delta or Southwest, or lodging with Airbnb and Of course there is Google's term and condition for the deal.
