Youtube has always ended the year with a "Rewind" video that recaps viral trends for the past 10 years. But this year, Youtube decided to take a break and not to release Youtube Rewind as the Google company cites this year’s various circumstances.
"It doesn’t feel right to carry on as if it weren’t. So, we're taking a break from Rewind this year." Youtube said in a statement. Youtube did thank their wide range of creators for entertaining viewers in this pandemic in a tweet "a look back at the year’s most impactful creators, videos, and trends, and it is always meant to be a celebration of you."
However, the initial reaction of this news is mostly supportive, with some creators appreciating the decision as the past couple years were not so good for youtube rewind and made video the most disliked video of all time, and there are some disagreements too, like JerryRigEverything making the case that there are “plenty of things to be positive about.”
