Discord gets funding from Sony for a minor stake after almost getting acquired by Microsoft. Sony plans to integrate the wildly popular chat system into the PlayStation Network.
Sony is part of Discord's Series H funding round which reportedly generated $100 million. This investment come just after Discord rejected a $12 billion acquisition offer from Microsoft in the hopes of a future public listing on the stock market.
"Together, our teams are already hard at work connecting Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network. Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together," says Sony CEO Jim Ryan.
Sony plans to fully integrate Discord with its PlayStation Network as soon as 2022.
