07/04/2021

Signal announces that they are testing a peer-to-peer payments system for its app. Signal Payments, only supports one protocol for now: the MobileCoin wallet and its companion cryptocurrency MOB.

Signal co-founder and CEO Moxie Marlinspike have good relationships with MobileCoin, and also advised the company prior to its latest round of funding last month.

Cryptocurrency is making its way to big corporates, from big fast-food chains to electric cars either started taking cryptocurrency as payment or plan to do soon. Tech companies are also trying to make cryptocurrency compatible with their payment systems like Twitch and Paypal.

“Signal Payments makes it easy to link a MobileCoin wallet to Signal so you can start sending funds to friends and family, receive funds from them, keep track of your balance, and review your transaction history with a simple interface. As always, our goal is to keep your data in your hands rather than ours; MobileCoin’s design means Signal does not have access to your balance, full transaction history, or funds. You can also transfer your funds at any time if you want to switch to another app or service.” company said.

This feature is rolling out for beta users of the app, who are living in the United Kingdom for now. This is the beta version with bug fixes and performance enhancements over time. "This is a beta feature in a beta build, but for those in the United Kingdom living life on the edge, please help us test and give feedback." company added.
